Dogs are allowed only on first floor, restricted to one per unit. (Visiting dogs are also allowed only on the first floor.) Cats are allowed on all three floors, restricted to two per unit. Fish and birds are also allowed. More details can be found in Regulation #15. |

Who is eligible to join 1666?An eligible buyer is a current or former University of Minnesota faculty, professional and administrative, or civil service staff member (at least 55 years of age) and spouse (regardless of age). The widow or widower (at least 55 years of age) of an eligible person may also apply. A 1666 resident does NOT have to be retired. We welcome you, actively working or actively retired.
If you decide to purchase a unit, it is necessary to indicate the nature and dates of your employment with the University of Minnesota. Complete the Application for Eligibility for Ownership. If a couple will be applying, both applicants must sign the application form and attach proof of birth dates with a copy of a government issued ID such as a passport or drivers license. First, the Board of Directors reviews your application and sends a letter of acceptance. Once eligibility has been confirmed, you may make an offer on a condo. |
Eligibility Regulations
Article IV of the Declaration for the 1666 Coffman Condominium Association states eligibility for ownership. Undergraduate Student employment does not qualify. What do monthly fees include?
Based on square footage of the unit, a monthly fee is assessed that includes heating, air conditioning, water, sewer, trash removal and recycling, insurance on the building, contingency and capital reserves, professional management and building maintenance indoors and outdoors, use of the exercise room, use of the woodshop, library and access to the Garden Terrace Dining Room |
What costs are owners responsible for?
You are responsible for Ramsey County real estate taxes, homeowners insurance on your unit and its contents, telephone, electricity, repairs and decorating within your home. Other costs are optional. If you use them, you pay for coin-operated laundries on the first floor, guest rooms, meals in the Garden Terrace Dining Room, private parties in the dining room or social room, and cable TV hook-up. |

A 1666 Coffman resident is able to meet the requirements of daily life independently, or with the support of a spouse (or partner), or with privately contracted services. A Coffman resident is able to:
- arrange transportation, either public or private
- make personal decisions and arrange financial planning
- take part in the volunteer committee work
- serve, if interested, on 1666 Coffman elected self-governance Board
- adapt to a condominium environment
The Neighborhood
We are surrounded by protected natural areas – UM Golf Course, experimental fields, Grove Park -- and abundant walking areas. ♦ The St. Paul Campus is in walking distance, where there is a gym, pool, running tracks and tennis courts. ♦ City buses stop in front of the building, with easy access to Light Rail. ♦ University buses stop at the Bell.
1666 Coffman was the vision of Gertrude Esteros, Professor at the University of Minnesota School of Design. It is a spectacular classical Roman architecture on 6.5 acres of University land. There are 93 units with 10 floor plans.
