Exercise is key to long and healthy life.  The exercise room has a wide variety of equipment as shown below, men's and women's changing room and shower, and a sauna.

There is exercise equipment in the Game Room on 2nd floor.
Always

D.  Life Fitness -C1 upright lifecycle exercise bike.  When you have knee surgery, this is the bike that is usually recommended because it is a little more gentle on the knee while you still have a lot of pain. It is also favored by people who want something that feels more like a real bike.

E.  Schwinn Treadmill - used by people who have various types of surgery e.g. hip surgery.
It is useful because you don't need to lift your legs too high to use it and there is something to hold onto if you just had hip surgery.

F.  Lifespan R3 recumbent bike.   Similar to the LeMond but it is higher off the ground.
You can stop pedaling & it doesn't lose your settings.  So, people who need to stop and rest frequently like this bike.  If you stop pedaling on the other bike, it wipes out your settings - it thinks you are done.

G.  3x Matrix Standup Elliptical.  It kind of simulates running except that is low impact to the body.  It is probably the most intense workout of the equipment we have.  (maybe tied with the rower).  Some people just use the leg part and simulate running. Others use arms & legs.

I.  LeMond G-Force RT Fitness recumbent bike.  Some people like this because it is low to the ground so it is easier to get on if you are short or your legs don't move so well.  Also, the back support is different from the other recumbent bike.

K.  Octane Fitness XR6000 Seated Recumbent Elliptical Cross trainer. This is our other elliptical machine.  This is the gentlest aerobics machine we have.  It is extremely popular because of that.  Also, it is in front of the TV if you are into that.  Works both upper and lower body or you can just do one or the other.

Exercise Room Mural

Picture
The mural was painted by many of our current and former Coffman residents.
It is is a vivid exemplification of the cooperative spirit and communal living of our residents.   It is a style of living where people respect and help one another.  The mural project was led by mathematician Lisl Gaal and involved a very large number of people, many of whom had never held a painting brush before.   Hazel Stoeckler was among those involved.  They spent a great deal of time and effort in this project depicting the outdoor spaces surrounding our building.   Al Weber and his son Tom have been portrayed — they are the golfers in the far left hand corner.
